A Tribute to Tony Harrison

I was very sorry to hear of the passing of Tony Harrison recently. I had the pleasure of teaching this as an unseen poem recently, and loved the way it drew me back to read it again and again. The syntax and working of the sentence over numerous lines, particularly in the final stanza, is reminiscent of Edward Thomas, despite their upbringings in very different parts of England. It's a testament to Harrison's gift as an elegist. RIP Tony Harrison.
